Word count increase : coefficient for multiplying the number of words in the foreign language, giving the number of French words in the target text.

Target language : the language into which we translate the original text.

Source language : the language in which the original text is written

Mother tongue : the first language learnt, the culture in which the translator was brought up and into which they translate.

Translation memory : a translation memory is a database which contains text segments and the corresponding text segments in another language. Translation memories are used to store translated segments, so that they can be reused at a later date.

Proofreading : comparative revision of the target and sources texts by a translator of a similar or higher level than the initial translator.
